Camp Devotions #1

As some of you know, I am working at a Christian camp on an island this summer. I wanted to share my devotions from this morning with you. They were amazing.

I got up long before breakfast and went down to some rocks right next to the dock. I wrapped my blanket around me and stared out across the lake. At first, I didn’t know where to start. Not because I did not have direction, but because I simply was in awe of my God and how simply (well not so simple actually) He is.

I pulled out a book that I am re-reading, This Changes Everything by Jaquelle Crowe. I have already read it because I actually got the privilege to endorse it! It is such an amazing book and I highly recommend it!

Today I was reading the introduction and the first chapter. What I walked away from that thinking about was this: I need to die. Now that seems kind of bad.  Honestly, I need to die to myself. Set aside my flesh and all of its desires and walk in accordance with God and Him alone. The message of “follow your heart” is truly self-idolatry.  As a Christian, I am called to be different from the world around me. The gospel is offensive. I am offensive. I wrote down how the gospel has changed me and how he has led me to the camp that I am working at.

Then I asked God to help me to die to myself today. To put into action loving as He loved us. To help me to be quiet and wise with my words. For me to be productive. I prayed for wisdom. My God is an awesome God. I cannot wait to see how He uses me and grows me this summer and in this season of my life.

At the end of the day, we watched a movie that I am very familiar with. It’s called Ragamuffin. It is about the life of Rich Mullins, a man that has changed my life. His testimony is amazing. One of his songs is ringing in my heart tonight and it is called “Hold Me, Jesus”.

Have a beautiful day! xoxo ❤
