Not a Vending Machine God {a story of answered prayer}

If you don’t mind, I am going to take a hot minute to brag on my God if that is alright? Cool. Thanks.

 

My God answers prayer

This past week we had finished up a class (at the Bible Institute that I attend) on theology and I left that class with an overwhelming need to be taking things to the Lord in prayer. So this week I’ve committed myself to talking to the Lord about the little things in life as much as the big things. Ive even been praying that the Lord would keep my plants alive!

My fiancé and I are getting married here in just a few short months and have been constantly cutting corners to save money. That’s life ya’ll.

However, I came to a spot where I only had two pairs of jeans that even semi fit. One was too tight and the other was way too loose. Both were uncomfortable. I always try to buy everything second hand and so I figured I would only be spending at most $15 for two pairs of jeans at a thrift store. However, I decided to pray about it and to bring it to the Lord. I asked Him to provide me with two pairs of jeans that fit well. The next day a girl went through her closet and asked if I wanted two pairs of her jeans. They were EXACTLY my size. I praised the Lord and thanked Him for providing for me and the next day I got a third pair of pants.

Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”

The Lord provided for me abundantly when I asked of Him. The next day I was looking in a box of free things in our laundry room and I saw some good looking vitamins. I have chronic health issues so I immediately was like “oh cool, one less thing to buy this month” and picked them up. Within a few steps away I felt the Lord so strongly telling me that those were not meant for me. I was so convicted that I went right back to the box and put them back. The next morning they were gone, to someone who needed them much more than I. The Lord is taking care of His people.

The next day my slippers, which I had had for well over 5 years, got a huge whole in the bottom. My friend standing next to me was like, “well, why don’t you pray for it!?” *wink wink*

So I listened to her and prayed real quick but also knew it was a comfort item and didn’t really expect the Lord to come through. MY BAD. Within an hour my dean called and said she had some cloths she was getting rid of if I wanted any and would you believe that there were slippers exactly my size in there?!

He is not a vending machine God

Now, don’t run away from this with the wrong impression. The Lord is not a vending machine God. He doesn’t answer every little whim of my heart. He even allows suffering into my life so that I am refined. But He IS like a father bending down to listen to His children. He wants to have this relationship with you where you go to Him with absolutely everything. He loves us so dearly and sometimes blessings seem to rain down. I don’t fully understand the Lord and that is okay, because what would be the point in having a “god” that I could understand with my finite humanity? I don’t think it would be worthy of worship. But let me tell you, MY God is SO worthy of ALL praise and ALL worship. He is unfathomable.
